 Friday-Sunday, November 16-18, 2007

2007 Workshop Repertoire (with Terry Durbin)

Boldfaced pieces are polished (covered in Durbin's classes). Others will be covered in group classes of other clinicians and performed in play-ins during the day.

  • Vol. 1: Twinkle, Lightly Row, Song of the Wind, Go Tell Aunt Rhody, O Come Little Children, May Song, Allegro, Etude, Minuet 1, Gavotte
  • Vol. 2: Musette, Long, Long Ago, Witches, Beethoven Minuet
  • Vol. 3: Martini Gavotte, Becker Gavotte
  • Vol. 4A: Seitz 2, Vivaldi a minor 1st mvt
  • Vol 4 B-5: Bach Double, Weber Country Dance, Vivaldi a minor 2nd mvt.
  • Vol. 6: Rameau Gavotte
  • Advanced: Seitz: No. 4 Concerto in D, 1st mvt

The repertoire list was decided by Kat, Candida and me based on the 3-year cycle in the attachment and suggestions from you over the summer. Unless there are objections, we will go with it this year. If you have suggestions about the 3 year cycle, please make them so we can fine tune it for succeeding years. We have tried to include more selections from v. 5-6.

The extra advanced piece this year is Seitz, Concerto no.4 in D (not a Suzuki piece) which is the All State audition piece for this year. It is a good piece for technical and romantic style development. We hope it will encourage high school students to come to the workshop. Auditions for All State are Sat Jan 12. To audition, your students have to be in their school orchestra if there is one. If there is no school orch, or if the students are homeschooled, they can audition if they have a sponsoring teacher who is a member of NCMEA (NC Music Educators' Association). Any teacher can join for about $70-80 (Information on MENC website) and then the teacher must attend the auditions and the clinic (if he/she has students attending). We hope to have a sight reading class at the workshop to further encourage participation of high school students.

We plan to have chamber music again for v.4 (v.3?) and above. Please submit your suggestions.

There is a list of previous advanced pieces in the attachment. Be thinking of good ones for next year.
